About AFAN

The Asian Film Alliance Network (AFAN) is a programme for Asian national film bodies to enhance partnerships, exchange information and celebrate the shared heritage, stories and resources within the region and beyond. Currently, AFAN is joined by the national film agencies from South Korea (KOFIC), Indonesia (Ministry of Culture Indonesia), Malaysia (FINAS), Mongolia (MNFC), Philippines (FDCP), Singapore IMDA/ SFC) and Taiwan (TAICCA). AFAN was formed during Cannes Film Festival 2023, initiated by the Korean Film Council, to bring like-minded national film agencies together to enhance current partnerships and build more solid exchanges in Asia and beyond. AFAN has partnered with the European Film Agency Directors Association (EFAD) in May 2024 to enhance ties and collaboration between Asia and Europe. In May 2025, Thailand joins AFAN at the Cannes Film Festival.

  • Purpose

    AFAN aims to foster co-productions, co-financing, technological exchanges, training, education, cultural workshops, and screenings to promote Asian cinema and cultural diversity.

  • Initiation

    The network was initiated by the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) and launched during the Cannes Film Festival in 2023.

  • Initial Members

    The initial members include film agencies from South Korea, Mongolia, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Singapore.

  • Partnerships

    AFAN has partnered with the European Film Agency Directors Association (EFAD) to explore common ground and potential collaborations.

  • Future Goals

    The network plans to spearhead initiatives to promote understanding and solidarity among Asian film creators and communities, aiming to expand the reach of cultural diversity throughout the world.
